About Rosa Castro
I offer psychotherapy and holistic coaching to individuals and couples facing adjustment and life issues specifically around social acceptance due to gender, race or life choices and cultural norms
I am originally from New York City, where I worked as a therapist for over 25 years with individuals struggling with mental illness and substance abuse issues. As a therapist, I dealt with a variety of patients that suffered from trauma, addiction, mental disorder, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and PTSD to name a few. Over the years I helped individuals stabilized, get sober and develop healthy lifestyles that allowed them to thrive and led fulfilling lives.
Currently, I live in Sweden and focus my expertise on helping individuals cope with issues related to adjusting to a new culture; navigating mood imbalances, specifically anxiety, depression, etc.; as well as relationship conflicts and social isolations.
As an expat myself, I understand how difficult it is to adjust to a new culture and develop a sense of belonging. I find that many individuals become isolated, depressed and anxious while living aboard. It can be very lonely and frustrating not knowing who to turn to for emotional support or validation. I believe individuals can benefit from therapy because it offers them an opportunity to gain insight, get the support they need while learning how to cope with stressors and emotional changes.
I also work with couples, specifically when they both have different cultural values and beliefs. I help couples learn ways to develop and improve communication styles, as well as cope with the stressors associated with a new environment.
My therapeutic style is fluid and intuitively designed to work with the individual needs of each client, which means no two clients get the same style of therapy. I incorporate several traditional therapeutic modalities and alternative techniques in therapy to bring on balance and change that will allow the person to thrive and live a full lifestyle.
