About Lisa de Geneste
I am a psychotherapist with 28 years of experience in a variety of settings including private practice. I provide services to individuals and couples and work with a diverse population of clients. Much of work is with professional adults ages 25 - 65, who are dealing with challenges in their careers, relationships/families and socio-cultural environments. I work frequently with individuals in the LGBTQ community.
In my practice I draw on my experience as a social worker in large urban centers where I worked in community mental health, HIV/AIDS, Family Violence, Trauma and Maternal and Infant Health. Much of my work was focused on multicultural communities which frequently faced issues such as immigration, health concerns, violence and various forms of oppression. Understanding how both internal individual factors and external systemic factors create distress on an individual, familial and community level, has helped deepen my ability to work with clients around a variety of issues.
I spent the majority of my years as a social worker in middle and upper management at community based non profits creating and implementing programs for communities in need of support. My work also led me to assist in the framing of public policy to address public health issues.
Originally from the Island nations of Trinidad and Tobago, I have lived for almost 40 years in the Unites States. I feel privileged to have a bi-cultural lens that offers alternative perspectives in my work as a psychotherapist. I completed my graduate work at Silberman School of Social Work, NYC ( then Hunter College School of Social Work) and received my Bachelors of Psychology at Brooklyn College, NYC. I completed post graduate training in Ericksonian Hypnosis at the Brooklyn institute for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.
I maintain current licenses in California, Florida and New York State.
