About Lori Kandels

Free yourself.

You’re probably here because something isn't working in your life. Maybe you know what it is, maybe you don’t. Maybe things are going really well, but you feel like you’re standing outside and looking in at your life. Or maybe things aren’t going well, and you don’t know how to get your life on track.

We develop ideas about who we are from the people and influences around us. If those reflections are negative, we can learn to distrust and even dislike ourselves. When that happens, we’re vulnerable to falling into the negative habits of self-doubt, fear, guilt, and sadness. When we base our responses on these habits, we lose sight of our best selves and our preferred ways of being and living.

Forgive yourself. Love the part of you that has been hurt and disappointed. It means that you expect something better. Admire your perseverance. Celebrate the moments when you feel confident, joyful, and free. Notice when your greatness shines through—even for a moment. Learn how to make a habit of your virtues.

Change can be good. Really.

Wondering if you could benefit from therapy?

Ask yourself the follow questions:

How’s Work?

Most of our lives are lived at work. If things aren’t going well there, it can color the rest of your life. I can help you to navigate work relationships, decide when to leave and when to stay, and find a work/life balance. I can also help if you find empowerment and self-regard if you have been bullied, sexually harassed or discriminated against.

How’s Your Money?

Under-earning or over-spending? Maybe you are doing OK, but still worry about what might happen next. Do you feel bad even talking about money?  Unearth the negative stories you are carrying about money and turn them around. Make money your friend; something that supports and nurtures you in the life that you love.

Any Lingering Trauma That Just Won’t Let you Be?

Childhood abuse, rape, domestic violence, an accident, robbery, man-made or natural disaster can leave you with a nervous system that becomes habituated to stress hormones. This can feed negative thinking and a disconnection from the things that used to bring you joy. Don’t settle for a life of mere survival. You can recover from trauma and thrive again.

Any Big Changes Happening?

Both wanted and unwanted transitions are stressful. Maybe you’ve moved or changed jobs. Maybe you have a new child or your children have left the nest. Maybe you have a new relationship or have ended an old one. Maybe you have experienced a significant loss or tragedy. Transitions are dislocating, but they also provide enormous opportunities.

How’s Your Health? Your Family’s Health?

Acute or chronic illness takes on toll on your self-esteem and your relationships over time. It can impose dramatic lifestyle changes that leave you feeling isolated and out of sorts. So can caring for an ill or disabled family member. Reconnect to a sense of agency and a purpose beyond getting through the day.
