About Karen Keys

People come to therapy after trying to feel better but with only partial success. Our partnership is a chance to bolster your strengths but also gain insight & clarity into how and why you are dealing with your particular challenges. You will also learn skills to cope with new hurdles or to reduce painful repetitious cycles and feel better for good. Therapy is about not just feeling better, but getting better.

With enduring compassion for the human experience, I bring a wide range of treatment expertise, diverse life experiences, and skills to assist you in your journey. You can expect our work to be a solid, steady partnership to respond to your evolving needs - from active listening to achieving specific goals. And you can count on empirically-proven strategies to assist you on your journey.

Prior to becoming a therapist, I have been a computer professional, music teacher, parent, and seen a bit of the world. My lived experiences, with a wide range of joys and a few knocks along the way, informs my relationships with my clients.

About me: I have been a clinician and program director for people living with HIV, substance use intensive therapy, clients with legal involvement, and in concert with the Brooklyn Human Trafficking Court. I have also given clinical supervision for Hunter College master's students, published original work on homeschooled children, and presented about treating people with HIV at the New York State mental health counselor's conference. Please do not hesitate to ask about my background, skills, or treatment recommendations.
