About Alphonso Nunez

My approach to therapy is one that is client-centered and collaborative. While I am versed in many modalities of MFT treatments, I primarily work from a background that leans heavily into Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as Humanistic-Existential Therapy techniques. My perspective is that humans are inherently relational beings and those relationships are ultimately maintained or dissolved by underlying emotional inner-workings. In our time together, we will work to name those emotions and identify what those emotions are attempting to direct us towards. As your therapist, it's my priority to co-create a space with my clients that is affirming, inclusive, safe and supportive. I have a strong background in working with issues around intimacy and sexuality both with individuals and couples/polycules. Other areas of familiarity include that of Eating Disorders/disordered eating behaviors and the ways in which diet culture influences society. In addition to that, grief and loss are issues that affect many, but can show up in very unique ways for each person and so our work lies in identifying sources of resilience. I also work with members of oppressed populations to navigate a number of issues they may experience as a result of systemic marginalization. This work is always done with an emphasis on social justice and empowerment in a collaborative manner. I believe that therapy is a delicate contract between myself and my clients and one that takes time and trust to fully realize the potential and power of change. At its fullest potential, therapy can be a celebration of the ways in which we are all different while appreciating how we're all connected.
