About Elizabeth Brokamp
Has your anxiety has been out of control lately, like your usual strategies just aren't working? Find yourself reacting to the headlines in ways that you know aren't helpful, but you just can't help yourself? Are other people noticing, too?
You pride yourself on holding things together and other people may often comment that you "make things look easy." You like to do everything well, whether it's at home, in your relationships, or at work -- and most of the time, you are successful, but it all comes at a cost. You may be getting tired, feeling overwhelmed, and having doubts. And you may be noticing that you feel depressed and low-energy. You're like a duck, serene above water and paddling furiously underneath to stay afloat. It can be exhausting and it doesn't always feel sustainable.
Especially when life throws a curveball like a breakup or a problem at work, it can be difficult to keep working that hard day after day. But you're not sure there is any other option. Where do you go from here?
I can help. As a therapist with over twenty years of experience, I have worked with many "Type A," perfectionistic people for whom there is a big discrepancy between the success they have achieved and the feelings of self-doubt and discomfort they feel on the inside. It's too easily dismissed as a problem of self-esteem but that's not completely it, because you know how hard you have worked and how much you have achieved. It's that you can't enjoy it. And how do you get help for that?
It's hard to ask for help when really, you know in your head that you're objectively doing well -- at least in the eyes of other people. But you need a next-level therapist who will understand why the wolves are always nipping at your heels, why it is hard for you to let go of your anxious thoughts, and why it is hard for you to let down your guard and let someone see you at your most vulnerable. I would love to be that person for you.
I can help you work toward clarity, sorting out what may be normal, helpful discomfort from anxiety that is growing and toxic. Together, we can work toward better balance to your life, including being able to retain high standards, but just not using those standards to beat yourself up. Sound good?
